This painting was inspired by a large tree trunk I came across while exploring around an old mining operation called Treadmill Mine in Douglas Alaska. I was struck by the beauty of the colors. Especially the bright bluish fungus and vibrant green lichens (moss) that had grown on the trunk. It was a cool place and it turns out it was pretty progressive place to work. Entire families lived and worked on-site and had access to a swimming pool, hot cooked meals, activities and even their own baseball league. The operation shut down when the pool developed a large crack and flooded their operations. Anyway the tree trunk inspired me enough to create a large abstract painting of it!
This was a fun painting to make. It will look great in a living room, den, bathroom or man cave. It’s rugged, deep texture makes it an awesome conversation
